Love writing or blogging but hate hearing about promotion and platform?
I feel you. Both the blogging and writing worlds have changed in the past few years. You used to be able to publish a book without publishers asking about platform or write a blog post and people would magically show up to read it. You could publish a blog post and people would appear out of the woodwork to read and comment.
Those days are GONE.
But the cool thing about our current landscape is that the tools for platform-building are available for free to everyone. I LOVE that. In fact I love platform-building, despite my original resistance to all things social media.
Create If Writing is all about authentic platform building for writers, bloggers, and creative types. I hope that my love for platform building will be contagious. I hope I can de-mystify some of the aspects and help you streamline the process so you waste less time and write more, write better. I hope to help you learn to sell to your people without being SMARMY.
Sound good? Perfect!
We should probably get familiar before I try to share a lot of information with you! I’m Kirsten Oliphant, aka Kikimojo on most social media. (That’s my roller derby name, by the way! So don’t make me mad or I’ll take you out.)
I love coffee, hate sleeping, and will always be Team Oxford Comma. I get nerdy about email lists and love talking about platform as building relationships, not increasing numbers.
A bit of history: I wrote my first novel in third grade in the rainbow-colored pages of a Hello Kitty notebook. Had the internet been around back then, I would have started blogging probably at age 8, and would have embarrassed the heck out of myself on social media. I got my Master in Fine Arts in Fiction from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 2007.
A year after I graduated, an agent sent my first manuscript to publishers and I had my first child. The publishers didn’t bite, but my son stuck around and we now have five kids. I don’t write fiction well with little kids hanging on me, so for the moment I’m getting my writing fix with non-fiction books (which you can find on Amazon) and two blogs (this one and my personal blog). I hope to get back to novels when my life feels a bit more manageable.
I started this site and the Create If Writing podcast in 2015 and hope to continue helping writers & bloggers connect with raving fans.
